Exhibitor Information
OK,
true believers, here's the deal:
The
rental of tables at PIX is limited to those who are
actually involved in the production of comics, either as creators
and/or as publishers (yes, we know that many of you wear all the hats
in your comics enterprise), and/or as distributors of your peers.
As long as the person(s) and/or
entity that is renting the table is either personally directly involved
in the creation
of the work exhibited and/or offered for sale at the table, or is
setting up on behalf of self-publishing and/or small press peers, then
you
are good to go. The bottom line is that PIX is all about creator
owned work.
We
put this information up front, as the table rates for
this show are so amazingly low for the simple reason that we are trying
to showcase and promote the work of self-publishing comics artists and cartoonists, as well as that of small-scale publishers.
Table rates:
6-foot
tables are $35.00@. (until September
30, after which they are $50.00)
Please
note that the table rate is the same for a single
day as it is for both. We request that anyone who knows that they
will be setting up on only one of the two days please let us know this
in advance.
So,
you may ask, how can PIX have free admission and offer tables at such crazy low
prices? Well, the key is our location. By holding PIX at the unique and way funky top floor of the
Guardian Storage
facility in the strip district, we have managed to keep the
overhead on the show quite low. This
location does bring with it one
caveat that ALL
EXHIBITORS NEED TO BE AWARE OF IN ADVANCE: This space has no heating or
cooling. This is the reason for the date of the
show. Extensive consultation with area meteorologists and
climatologists led to the choosing of this particular weekend as being
the one offering the best possible conditions (not really; we just
looked it up on the internet – but that doesn't have the same ring to
it). Given that this is the top floor, and heat rises, we erred
on the side of it possibly being a bit on the cool side rather than on
the hot, as we felt it might be a bit much to ask for exhibitors to
stand around in their swim suits all day (although, who knows? it might
be fun...). In other words, don't forget to check the weather for
the weekend before you pack up and head out, and be prepared to keep
your hoodies on and pack a thermos full of your favorite hot beverage,
if the day runs on the cold side (although we are working to have hot
coffee on hand). And if we have a freak heat wave? Well,
there's always the swim suit option...
We
will contact exhibitors with set-up times and other
information as soon as we have it all figured out, which should not be
too long from now. We encourage anyone who has a question to
email us at pix@copacetic.biz
and fire away.
In addition, as we do not expect
this first PIX to be large enough to support the attendance of top tier independent comics publishers such as
Fantagraphics, Drawn & Quarterly, Top Shelf, AdHouse, PictureBox,
etc., The Copacetic Comics
Company
will attend in their stead and offer a
generous selection of their publications as well as those of select
small press and self-published comics by out-of-town creators who are
unable to attend the show, and
thus help provide a larger context for the regional works that will
dominate the proceedings.
