The frame for the story is a woman who is
living in the home of her grandparents and great-grandparents and so on in rural
Alabama " present day." She tells the story of seven generations focusing on
her grandfather's. Her grandfather had 5 children (3 lived) by the young black
woman who came to live with the family years after Grandfather's young wife
died. The basic theme is race relations.
The reader is Anne Fields who does
and excellent job with her clear soft voice.
