Armadale by Wilkie Collins
finished 5/12 ......... Victorian classic
....... rating 6.5
I just got hooked into this book. I've read
two others by Collins, The Moonstone (his best, imo) and The Woman in White.
Armadale is the story of two men with the exact same name due to the murder of
one father by the other father who proceeded to impersonate the first. These
young men are very different from one another but due to a series of incredible
circumstances, become fast friends. The whole book is a series of unlikely
circumstances but I think it's supposed to tie into fate via a dream from which
they can't escape. One character, Lydia Gwilt, is probably the most
despicable, evil even, female character I have ever come across in fiction.
In one scene toward the end I was almost envisioning teeth coming out for blood.
