Well I'd looked forward to this book but it was
ultimately disappointing. I guess I wanted more of what it had been like for
the protagonist, Mary/Freya/Caroline/Louise, than for her son Jason. Anyway,
A woman flees her way from the scene
of a felony done in the name of radical revolution - (think Weather
Underground). Her boyfriend flees his way. Woman ends up 35 years later as a
widowed mother of an 18 year old tech and musically inclined boy. The boy
realizes that something is not right with his mother's stories of her past and
one day some information crosses his path.
It's a good book, I guess - it had
me researching Bernadette Dorne and Mark Rudd, the Underground/Prairie Fire and
so on. But there's more musical information and allusions here than I've read
since Jonathan Letham's The Fortress of Solitude.
