The Prizewinner of Defiance, Ohio: How My Mother Raised 10 Kids on 25 Words or Less is the memoir of Terry Ryan but mostly dealing with her mother's life. It's tolerably written but that's not the point of this heartwarming and funny book. I laughed as I became involved with the 10 children living from hand to mouth on their father's paycheck and mother's contest winnings. This wouldn't have been so bad had Dad not been a drunkard. A tribute to a loving mother's resilience, strength, optimism, perseverance and love of life.
