ARACHNE 2005 CHRISTMAS CARD EXCHANGE

Members of Arachne enjoyed a Christmas Card Exchange again in 2005. This year's exchange was organized by Bev Walker. Each participant sent a card to another member, with a piece of lace enclosed. These are scans of some of the lace gifts various members received.


Lorri Ferguson of Graham, Washington, USA, adapted this design from a pattern in OIDFA Bulletin Number 4, 2000. Lorri worked this design in cotton with gold-filled beads and glass snowman drop, edged with gold metallic cord. This ornament was sent to Helen Tucker, of Bath, UK.


This ornament was made by Dagmar, in the Czech Republic, and sent to Mary Robi, of Nebraska, USA. This is Dagmar's own design and is two layers of lace. The bottom layer is the red circle, and the top layer is the braids and picots in gold metallic thread.


This Christmas wreath was made by Carol Houser, of Salem, Oregon, USA, and sent to Beth McCasland of Louisiana, USA.


Angela Steinhausen made this lace wreath from a Christine Springett kit pattern. It was sent to Alice Howell of Oregon, USA.


This lace poinsettia was made by Antje González, of Guadalajara, Spain, from a pattern in an old lace magazine. The red petals are bobbin lace half stitch, and the green leaves are cut from green cardboard, all mounted on a handmade card. Diane Williams, of Galena, Illinois, USA, is the recipient of this card.


Martina De Wille, of Schmidmühlen, Southern Germany, made this lace for Jeanette Fischer in South Africa and Andrea Lamble in Great Britain. The pattern is from the book "Weihnachtliche Klöppelmotive" by Brigitte Bellon. Martina mounted the lace in a 3-fold card on Christmas fabric.


This candle was designed and made by Brenda Paternoster, of Allhallows, Kent, UK. The design was originally published in "Young Lacemaker" magazine in all white. It was sent to Wendy Nielsen in Oregon, USA.


This yellow and gold Christmas bell was made by Malvary Cole, of Ottawa, Canada, and was sent to Sue Harvey in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. It is Idrija Lace, a pattern from Bridget Cook, who brings back patterns from the lacemakers in Slovenia. The thread is Mettler Embroidery cotton No. 30 for the passives, with Madeira gold metallic for the worker.


This lace ornament was made by Jane Dobinson, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, and sent to Annelore Stone, of Eatonville, Washington, USA. The pattern is from "100 New Bobbin Lace Patterns" by Fukuyama, using YLI quilting thread and a metallic trail weaver in Signature thread.


This wreath was designed and made by Jeanette Fischer, using DMC Broder Machine and a metallic thread. It was sent to Janice Blair, of Crystal Lake, Illinois, USA.


Aurelia Loveman made this flower from DMC floss in dark green, with a gimp of DMC gold metallic. It was sent to Chris Vail, of Illinois, USA.


This Christmas candle was made by Shirley Meier, of Australia, from a design by Janice Blair, of Crystal Lake, Illinois, USA. It was sent to Lynn.


This card was made by Sue Clothier, of Southampton, UK. The needle lace star was designed by Sue, and was made from double bruxelles, with a spider for the center using DMC Special Dentelles thread and added glitter. Sue's card was sent to Carol Melton.


This dove is in a lace wreath made by Kathy Hensel, from a pattern in Christine Springett's "Christmas Collection" ISBN 0-95171577-7-1. The card was sent to Martina De Wille, of Germany, and to Lucie DuFresne, of Canada.


This card was designed and made by Bev Walker, of Sooke, BC, Canada © 2005. The tree is a Buckspoint hybrid, honeycomb on a 50-degree grid. The card was sent to Julie, in New Zealand.


This candle was made by Barbara Joyce, of Snoqualmie, Washington, USA, from a design by Brigitte Bellon, using linen thread and DMC metallic. It was sent to Aurelia Loveman, of Catonsville, Maryland, USA.


Tamara Duvall, of Lexington, Virginia, USA, made this card for Shirley Meier in Australia. This ornament is one of Tamara's own designs, for which she used Colcoton Unicat 34/2 and Sulky metallic, both in shades of lilac and purple, accented with gold beads.


Pam Mattioli, of Vera Playa, Spain, designed this card as a fundraiser for Poole Bobbin Lace Circle. The card was sent to Tamara Duvall, of Lexington, Virginia, USA. The lace can be removed from the card and used as an ornament.


These two lace angels were made by Carol Melton, of Litchfield Park, Arizona, USA, from designs by Brigitte Bellon. The card was sent to the Czech Republic. Carol scanned the lace angels and added them to a sunset picture. She then tucked the angels inside the card.


Annelore Stone, of Eatonville, Washington, USA, made this ornament from a Christine Springett pattern.


This lace was made by Debbie Mouzon, of Florida, USA. The design is modified from a Bucks Point bookmark. The pattern can be found on page 24 of the Autumn 1988 issue of "Lace "(number 52). Debbie added an extra passive in the edge to add firmness, and she also shortened the design from the bookmark length so that it could be used as an ornament. The lace was sent to Sue Clothier, of Southampton, UK.


This star was made by Karen Butler, of Coventry, UK, and sent to Jane Dobinson, of Ontario, Canada. The pattern is from "Sonne, Mond und Sterne" by von Inge Theuerkauf.


Lisa Thompson, of Plano, Texas, USA, made this angel, and sent it to Lorri Ferguson, of Graham, Washington, USA. The pattern is from "Lace Express" Vol 3/00, submitted by Veronika Brunner.


Ilske Thomsen made a lace design with a candle done with 50/2 linen and a bit of Madeira silver. The design is from M. J. Geers-Vermeulen, a former teacher of Ilske's. The card goes to Kathy Hensel.


This lace was made by Anne Nicholas, of Hanworth, Middx., England, and sent to Nova Pate in Courtenay, BC, Canada. The pattern was in the October Lace magazine and is by Robin Hueppauff of Australia. Anne used white Tanne 30, a gold thread, and gold wire on the outside edge.


Janice Blair, of Crystal Lake, Illinois, USA, designed this ornament for a workshop at her lace guild. She used Mettler Silk Finish 50 and 5 pairs of bobbins. The pattern and pricking can be seen on the IOLI website. Her card was sent to Martina De Wille, in Schmidmuhlen, Germany.


This star was made by Nova Pate, of British Columbia, Canada, from a pattern designed by Emmy Dellevoet, using white DMC Paris Cedex 12 and gold Westrim Crafts 2-ply lamé. Her card was sent to Debbie Mouzon, of Florida, USA.


Alice Howell, of Oregon, USA, created this angel. The body is done twice so that it is three-dimensional when it is hanging. The pattern is by Kortelahti in the "Patterns 1998" book, copied at 85% size, and worked with Moravia linen. Malvary Cole, of Ottawa, Canada, is the recipient of this angel.


This little robin was created by Andrea Lamble of Cambridge, UK. The pattern was designed by Moira Matthews, and was published in a Lace Guild magazine published in 1982. Andrea used Mettler Stickyarn and DMC Brilliante d'Alsace. The card was sent to Barbara Joyce, of Snoqualmie, Washington, USA.


Diane Williams, of Galena, Illinois, USA, tatted a snowman from a Jane Eborall pattern that she found online. Diane's card went to Antje González, of Guadalajara, Spain.


This snowbird was made by Beth McCasland, of Louisiana, USA. Inside the card are two wings that fit over the body of the bird to make it three dimensional. The inscription says "This little snow bird brings you Christmas cheer and three little words . . ." The three words inside are "some assembly required." This card was sent to Diane Williams of Galena, Illinois, USA.


This card with a Rosaline Snowball was designed and made by Laura Sandison, of New Mexico, USA. The card was sent to Carol Houser in Salem, Oregon, USA. As a special gift to us all, Laura has provided the pricking and instructions for her Rosaline Snowball. The pricking should print out with a diameter of 2" or 5 cm.


Dianne Taylor made this red and gold candle and sent it to Michele Hitch, of Salinas, California, USA. Dianne modified a pattern that she found in a book of Christmas patterns, and used DMC 80 and DMC metallic threads.


Michele Hitch, of Salinas, California, USA, made this tatted snowflake using Gutterman 100% cotton quilting thread, from a pattern from "Anna" magazine's December 2004 issue. Noelene Lafferty, of Cooma, Australia, is the recipient of this lace.


This glow-in-the-dark angel was made by Faye Owers, of Tasmania, Australia. It was sent to Lisa Thompson, of Plano, Texas, USA.


These two Christmas decorations were made by Chris Vail, of Illinois, USA. The one on the left is "Snowland," a knitted ornament created by Chris. The one on the right is a tatted ornament done from a picture on Mark Myers's Tat-Man site. They were sent to Annelore Stone, of Eatonville, Washington, USA.


These two ornaments were made by Lynn Weasenforth. The one on the left is wire, based on one of Tamara Duvall's patterns. The one of the right is regular thread. They were sent to Alice Howell of Oregon, USA.


Lynn Dewitt, of Anchorage, Alaska, USA, made this wreath from Christine Springett's "Torchon Lace Book" using linen and metallic threads. The ornament was sent to Anne of Hanworth, Middx., England.


This ornament was made by Mary Robinson, of Nebraska, USA, and sent to Brenda Paternoster, of Allhallows, Kent, UK.
