ARACHNE CHRISTMAS CARD EXCHANGE

Members of Arachne enjoyed a Christmas Card Exchange again in 2004, organized by Brenda Paternoster. Each participant sent a card to another member, with a piece of lace enclosed. These are scans of some of the lace gifts various members received.


cardinal

This cardinal-in-a-wreath was made by Kathy Hensel of Oregon, USA, and sent to Outi Rissanen, of Finland.

This tree was made by Helene Gannac of Melbourne, Australia. Helene made the tree in green DMC 30 and gold Lurex thread as a worker. The pattern was designed by Jana Novak of Moravia.


Rudolph

This reindeer was made by Janice Blair, of Crystal Lake, 50 miles northwest of Chicago, Illinois, USA, and sent to Margaret Abbey, of Victoria, Australia. Janice designed Rudolph, which started life as a rocking horse and then morphed into a Dala horse. Finally Janice added the antlers and changed the body and tail, and he became a reindeer.

This cross-stitched angel with lace border was made by Ann Blunden, and sent to Lisa Thompson.


Tree #2

This tree was made by Dianne Tayler, of Tennessee, USA, and sent to Sue Clothier of Southampton, UK.


Le Pompe

This lace was made by Beth McCasland, of South Louisiana, USA, and sent to Antje, in Spain. It is a design from Le Pompe, 1559.


card angel

Alice Howell of USA made this card with a detachable bookmark, and enclosed an angel from a design by Eeva-Liisa Kortelahti. The flower and the angel's wings are paperstring and can be shaped. These were sent to Sonja Sillay, of Sweden (currently living in Bristol, UK).


Santa

This lace Santa was made by Outi Rissanen, of Finland, and sent to Barbara Saltern, of Nazareth, PA, USA. The pattern was designed by Ulla Fagerlin of Sweden.

This lace tree was made by Angela Steinhausen, of England, and sent to Janice Blair, of Crystal Lake (near Chicago, IL, USA). Angela said the design was once included in a lace calendar.


Snowflake 3

This ornament was made by Irene Whitham, of Canada, and sent to Ann Blundin, of Australia. It is a pattern from Kniplebrevet (the Danish guild magazine).


Stocking

This card with a bobbin lace stocking was made by Sonja Sillay, of England, and sent to Irene Whitam, of Canada.


Knitted Lace

This knitted lace was made by Heather Davies of Canada and sent to Sue M. Harvey of Norfolk, UK.


Bell

This bell was made by Trish Fischer and sent to Ilske Thomsen.


Fans

This ornament was made by Barbara Joyce of Washington, USA, and sent to Jane Viking Swanson of Vermont, USA. Barbara selected a Springett's design, using Brok 36/2 and DMC 284Z along with 2mm gold beads.


Butterfly

This butterfly was made by Jane Viking Swanson of Vermont, USA, and sent to Barbara Joyce of Washington, USA. It is made from Battenberg tape with hand-stitched needlelace filling stitches.


Bird

This bird was made by Lisa Thomson and sent to Anne Nicholas, of Hanworth, Middx. England. The pattern is Weinnachtliche Kloppelmotive by Brigitte Bellon.


Half Stitch

This half stitch bookmark was made by Cary Foertsch of Washington, USA, and sent to Shirley Meier of Victoria, Australia. Cary is a beginner lacemaker who is teaching herself from a book.


Snowflake 2

This snowflake was made by Anne Nicholas of England, and was sent to Cary Foertsch of Washington, USA. It is from Tamara Duvall's booklet, "Two-Pair Inventions."


Candle

This Torchon candle was made by Antje in Spain, who used a pattern designed by a friend. She used Fincacrochet 50 and gold metallic threads. It was sent to Bev, in Sooke, BC (on Vancouver Island, west coast of Canada).

This snowflake was made by Bev, in Sooke, BC (on Vancouver Island, west coast of Canada). It was sent to Angela in the UK. The design comes from Tamara Duvall's booklet, "Two-Pair Inventions." Bev used linen 140/2 and the pattern, "Starflowers."
