Very good news... and more anticipation [UPDATE - Even more good news]

Veith went to see a preview of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe and will be reporting more - so far it looks positive

This first bit of good news I have is that Gene Edward Veith - culture editor for World Magazine and contributing blogger to WorldMagBlog - has now started off on a blog all by himself. It is called Cranach, after the Reformation artist. It is going to be a blog about the union of Christianity and culture. Veith is one of my favorite writers and I'm really looking forward to reading a lot more of him.

The second piece of good news that really has me excited is that he was invited to see clips and commentary of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. He doesn't have much to say tonight, but promises to have a post up tomorrow with his thoughts on it (which is the more anticipation part of my title).

I can't think of a work of fiction that I love more than the Chronicles of Narnia, and as I said before, I've been trying to restrain my excitement so I'm not too disappointed if it doesn't work out. But this news is making it harder to suppress my hopes. I think it must be a good sign that the filmmakers are attempting to reach out to the Church (as Gibson did for Passion) and I'm hoping that they aren't stupid enough to think they can reach out to the Church while cutting Christianity out of the movie (this is Hollywood, and Disney, though, so don't hold your breath). I can't wait to hear more on this and I'm really hoping they don't screw it up

UPDATE - It looks like Veith had more than a little to say about the movie - putting up 7 posts this morning. Check out Cranach for all 7, I don't want to link up each one. Some interesting highlights - Aslan is apparently being voiced by Qui-Gon Jinn (or Jean Valjean, if you prefer), and I'm particularly excited about the involvement of Douglas Gresham - Lewis' stepson - who seems to really "get it", judging by his comments. It is now even harder to contain myself and attempt to maintain some kind of wait and see attitude.
