PALM, Critical Mass, Pinconning

750+ cyclists arrive in a town of 600, an unintended critical mass happens

PALM caps off each annual ride with a "parade". All the participants gather at a prearranged spot in the final city, wear their new PALM shirts, and ride a short distance en mass. It is a fun way to end the tour. It is a tradition of PALM. Dan and I wore our purple shirts and gathered with our new 700 closest friends at Pinconning Park on the shores of Saginaw Bay. We waited for all the city officials to arrive and lead us in the parade. Fire trucks, police cars, oh what fun!

The plan was to ride two miles on Pinconning Road, cross M 13, and turn into the school where all of our belongings were. That was the plan. Construction on M 13 prevented us from taking our little parade across the road. So they dumped us on the east side of the road just out side their small government buildings. The ensuing traffic jam shut the city down! It was unintended, but a real Critical Mass with the least likeliest of suspects.

Pinconning and PALM will never be the same.
