To paint the doors and boot lid, I had to put them on saw horses in the front of the "booth" and paint them one at a time. But they were ready. I was ready. I donned my white Tyvek suit, goggles, gloves, and mask, and cracked open the paint that I was assured would do me in if I breathed a whiff of it. The paint store guy told me, "Make sure the respirator fits snugly. If you can smell the paint, you know it's not fitting well, or the filters have lost effectiveness. Don't breathe this stuff." Snugging the respirator, I mixed the primer with the 2nd stage activator - this sealing primer is epoxy based, and should seal the metal from outside moisture. The second application of primer, a primer surfacer, would have to follow with a couple of days, or it would not adhere properly, and the car would need to be wet sanded completely. |
