Here's an area I struggled with for weeks. Pounding out dents, trying to convince myself that I should be able to make an almost filler-less repair, then realizing that that was a misguided expectation. So fill, sand, repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Then use putty instead of filler for the small pin holes and little scratches. This was one of the areas I felt good about, when the painter, looking over the car when we took it into the paint shop said, "So, you couldn't quite get the original curve there, eh?" He then proceeded to patch another area of the car that I'd thought would be OK, going from what would have been crap to just about pure perfection in about an hour, including drying time and primer. Not to make excuses or anything, but it helped to have the car elevated and be able to stand away from it a few feet. ;-( (See the painting section) |
