Here's a picture of the rear subframe. From this angle and distance, it looks OK. Reality is more like the next picture, however. There is a fair amount of rust in the webs of the frame. According to the restoration book, when the subframe looks like this, replace it. I chose to chop out the bad sections, form new sheet metal patches, and weld them in. I figured that at worst, I'd get welding practice before buying a new subframe, and at best, the repaired one would work for a couple of years. We'll see. |
