preparation_for_surgery A line of rusted out holes traced its way across the bottom of the driver's side door, and led to a replacement of the outer skin. The passenger door skin was sounder, suffering only some rust behind the lower hinge. In my hopeful, optimistic manner, I assumed that this rust was not too bad, I could just clean it off, and go on.

Upon benching the door and doing some hard-edged probing, it turned out that the area behind the hinge, in between the mounting holes, was solid rust. Continued probing resulted in a large hole being poked in the panel. I don't have a photo of the rust in place, but here's the door, ready to be worked on.
