BHS Performance Classes
Bayonne High offers several performance classes for instrumental music including Band I (Concert Band), Band II (Wind Ensemble), and Jazz Ensemble.Band I (Concert Band) is open to all winds and percussion students who have at least one year’s experience on their instrument. No audition is required, but students are expected to attend all regular after school rehearsals and performances for Concert Band and their service ensemble.
Band II (Wind Ensemble) is only open to students who pass an audition. All Band II students are expected to attend all Wind Ensemble rehearsals and performances for Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their service ensemble.
Jazz Ensemble is also only open to students who pass an audition. All students must participate with the Wind Ensemble and attend all after school rehearsals.
Fundamentals of Music
Students enrolled in Fundamentals of Music will learn about basic music theory including notes names, basic rhythms, key signatures, time signatures, scales, keys, and basic chords and chord functions.Music Theory APH
Music Theory Advanced Placement Honors is an advanced music theory course that teaches students about advance music theory topics including voice leading, harmonic analysis, figured bass analysis, phrase and form analysis, basic musical composition, cadences, non-harmonic tones, chord progressions, and musical forms.This course requires that students either take Music Fundamentals or pass the Fundamentals exam, and that they have a basic understanding of general music theory.
