From the emailed newsletter: Welcome to NISW News! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Volume 1, No. 2, November 2005 National Inclusive Schools Week(tm) highlights and celebrates the progress our nation's schools have made in providing a supportive and quality education to all students, particularly those who have disabilities and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. It also provides an important opportunity for educators, students, and parents to discuss what else needs to be done in order to ensure that their schools continue to improve their ability to successfully educate all children and youth. NISW News is your source for updates and information about the Week-and other resources and events related to building more welcoming and supportive schools and communities. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - We encourage you to forward this newsletter to others! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Great things happen in inclusive schools. Inclusive schools benefit all the students-not just those with disabilities. Research has proven that students with disabilities learn more in the general education classroom. Also, a very important need for children is met. This is the need for friendships with children of the same age. Students without disabilities also learn how to be compassionate and accept other people who are a little different. This is America-we come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and abilities. Inclusive schools reflect this idea! Recent post to the NISW blog What great things are happening in your inclusive school or community?
