Do. Not. Want.Shoo. Go 'way.
We are in a group of people that buy a
certain number of season tickets for the local National Hockey League team and
divvy up the seats. We have two tickets for tomorrow night's game against Los
Angeles.
This morning, it's all over the news that Caribou Barbie will be dropping the puck at that game. Having never been at any event featuring a presidential or vice presidential candidate before, I do not know for certain, but I can guess that security will be stepped up substantially. I have no clue if they'll let her talk or not, but the game is being broadcast (on FOX Sports Midwest, natch) so there'll be little to no delay before opening ceremonies allowed. Which quite probably means that a lot of folks will miss the puck drop and Gov. Palin, because they're stuck in some line -- security, concessions -- instead of in their seats. Seems a little self-defeating to me. The candidates have been in and out of this town like a comedian caught in a revolving door over the last couple of weeks. I'm of two minds about it -- part of me is quite grateful that we are a swing state, because normally only the two city areas in the state show any kind of major Democratic propensities, and even their suburbs are glaringly Red. I think the only time we saw Bush four years ago was when his Walker cousin was throwing (yet another) fundraiser for him, and the Kerry campaign gave up Missouri as a lost cause and didn't even bother... but I could be incorrect, I've slept since then. But it's nice to not be written off, and it's nearly amazing to see people who generally vote with their demographic instead of their heads think about the election for a change. It's a damn shame it took what it did to make 'em use their brains, but... well, there it is, as Jeffrey Jones' character says in Amadeus. OTOH, any sort of candidate or presidential visit is a major pain in the posterior because of the security. And like a posterior, they follow our family around; we were here for Bush pater, in L.A. when Clinton, who loved to visit the Hollywood crowd, was in office, and back here for Bush filis. I can hear you say, "OK, your husband works near the airport in Arch City, so I can see where that would be obnoxious. But Camera, L.A.'s the size of a couple of East Coast states put together, and you guys lived in an exurb on the edge of nowhere, halfway to Santa Barbara. Why did Clinton bother you?" He liked to stay in a hotel overlooking the Santa Monica pier, very close to Hubby's office, and tying up the streets and freeway Hubby used to get to and from work. In conclusion, because it seems I'm rambling: the election cannot come soon enough for me. I want these people off of my television / radio and out of my everyday life.
