There and Back Again

We're home

What we brought back: souvenirs (a few), photos (a few), tans (light), dirty clothes (one suitcase -- we had a washer-dryer in the condo), and a bad combination of jet lag and overnight travel.

Oh -- lots and lots of memories.

Hubs lost 10 pounds due to an increase in his activity level. I found three or four of them, due to going from a moderately low-carb diet to one with plenty of fruit, white rice, and daily shave-ice. Whoopsie.

Before anybody whines at me about the lack of photos... I've discovered you can either document your vacation, spending all your time seeing it through your camera's lens and worrying about whether you have batteries, enough space left on your card / roll of film, and what you can do with the beast so that nobody steals it when it's not around your neck.

Or you can enjoy your vacation, living and doing rather than framing shots and worrying.

So, I have a few pix of the beach at Three Tables one sunset, a couple-three of the windward side from the day we car-tripped (see above), and Hubs took some of the Arizona memorial and the Missouri. And we took a waterproof camera out with us when we went snorkeling, but we haven't had that roll developed yet. Other than that, it's all in our heads.

The weather was beautiful. Summer on the North Shore means temps in the 70s at night, 80s during the day, and the occasional very brief misty shower when a cloud blown in by the trade winds bounces off a mountain. Pretty, pretty.

Staying at the North Shore means no "A-looooooooooo-ha" or other Hawai'ian-spoken-for-the-tourists'-benefit (except for the Polynesian Cultural Center), locals and transplants who are exceptionally friendly, and no crowds except for those on the Kamehameha Highway slowing down to look at the few summer surfers and the view every time there's a beach (and there're lots.) Frankly, if you're only headed to Oahu looking for what Waikiki has to offer, those in the eastern two or three U.S. time zones are much better off vacationing in Miami Beach.

More later when I get the photos cleaned up and developed.

A shout-out to me mum and stepdad who came up last weekend to care for the houseplants and eat Italian. Mahalo!

Bonus points to the first one other than my husband who pegs the entry title's origin.
