The state of the family
If it isn't one damn thing, it's
another
They discharged my mother from the
hospital Friday morning. I had said I was going down there when they did, but I
can't because we're passing a head cold around the house. It's not a good idea
to expose someone to that when they've just spent two weeks fighting something
that acts like pneumonia but isn't, y'know? #1-Son had a mild case last
weekend, #2-Son spent most of the week fighting it (during finals, poor lad) and
just yesterday was enough better to stop taking meds, and Daughter has had it in
a bad way since last Tuesday. It kinda messed up her lung-capacity test during
her semi-annual visit to the allergist / asthma specialist on Friday, but since
it takes 3 months to get an appointment, you keep the one you have unless you're
deathly ill.And it turned out
I was wise not to make a flying run down to Mom's over the weekend, because Hubs
and I started in with the drainage in the throat yesterday. I'm throwing zinc
and vitamin C and cold meds at it, hoping I can 1) keep it down to a dull enough
roar that I don't feel like death for Christmas Eve and Day and 2) I can shake
most of the symptoms before Thursday, when we plan to take the whole family down
to see Mom and Chicken Without a
Head and her husband, who will have flown in from the west coast for
the first time in a year and a half. As it is, I figure I'm not going to get to
hold my new great-nephew on Christmas Day. Boo.
