Memo to me
Um, I was drinking that for a
reason...
Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet is
low-fat and as absolutely low-carb as you can get. No starches of course, and
no sugars, including no
fruit. So yours truly, who had been
drinking 4 - 6 ozs. of cranberry juice (100%, not the cocktail stuff, that's
mostly corn syrup) every morning for years, switched over to low-sodium
V-8.
Even after the first couple - three
weeks when you're allowed to ease into complex carbs and fruit, I kept drinking
the V-8. Heaven knows I never get enough vegetables (according to the experts)
and I'd become used to it.
This past weekend that decision came
back to bite me in the butt. Literally. Got my first UTI in
I-don't-know-how-long. Yeeee-owch. So first thing this morning I hauled myself
down to the doc's to pee in the cup and a very sympathetic N-P wrote me a 'scrip
for an antibiotic right then and there even though they hadn't tested the
sample. Bless her. I warned her that she'd have no problem picking out my
sample from the rest because I'd already started taking Uristat. It helps, but I just wish
it didn't stain so badly...
I know I do better at both waking up
and lasting until lunch if I keep the sugars out of my breakfast. So I guess
I'll be having half a cup of cranberry juice with lunch from now on. To quote
Eddie Murphy in
Shrek,
or Will Smith in Men in
Black: "Because...
Damn."
P.S. I'm afraid hitting the Y this
morning was not high on my agenda. Pilates tomorrow will depend on how quickly
the antibiotics work their magic.
