Whoops

I took the summer off

Three months to the day since I last made an entry. Sorry 'bout that.

Well, except for Daughter, none of us did anything all summer after the end of school. No vacation trip, but also no frantic scramble every morning to get someone to summer school or some other such activity. It was nice.

Daughter went on a 10-day church work trip in June to a Lakota reservation in SW S. Dakota, and spent a week at church camp in July doing counselor training. #1-Son made a flying run to Urbana w/ his father overnight in July to register for his first semester classes.

School is upon all of them next week -- #2-Son and Daughter start next Tuesday; #1-Son moves into his dorm next Thursday and starts classes the Monday after. I think I've purchased all the junk he needs, but I'm sure we've forgotten something. Well, he'll just have to figure out some way to get to the retailer of his choice, won't he?

Daughter also starts soccer practice on Friday. She waffled for a bit on whether or not to play this year, but finally decided to. She also has a new private viola teacher; the woman is a tiny, wiry little over-achiever. Daughter and I both leave her house every week just shaking our heads. She is so NOT like anyone in our family; but Daughter is getting a butt-kickin' grounding in musical basics, which will serve her well the next three years and probably through college, since violists are generally in short supply and most universities will find cash / scholarships to obtain their services.

Oh, our high school Orchestra Director told the UIUC Orchestra Director that #1-Son was headed his way. They have one orchestra at UIUC for non-majors / community members / players of all abilities, w/ minimal practice / rehearsals / performance requirements -- an orchestra for folks that are playing for the love of music, not as a profession, which has always been #1's position on the subject. Now I just have to figure out how to stick the cello in with all the junk he'll be taking to school. Good thing it's only the two of us making the move-in trip.
