Catching up

Dad's in a rehab facility, Mom's motoring right along and I think would probably go back and get the other hip done next week if they'd let her. My baby sister is her usual fun self, and I annoy the hell out of her when I cook in front of her, or even talk about it. She's a foodie. I'm more into quantity and efficiency (as in: if I can't put it in the crockpot, it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes to cook.)

The woman who does everybody in the family's hair but mine is 30 weeks pregnant and has either a kidney infection or kidney stones. It's her first baby. Prayers that way, please. Daughter and I went to the baby shower thrown by the day spa for her last Sunday. It was mercifully short -- no games. It was, however, incredibly pink since they know the child is a girl. Me personally, I could never go ahead and do that with any of mine because we never got a good peek with the ultrasounds and also because my hospital roommate when I had #2-Son had done so and lo and behold, went home with a Robert Jordan. You can't prove a negative (in this case: doesn't have external equipment.) But I know that ultrasounds are a damn sight more comprehensive than they were 15 years ago and also that they got a good angle, so I guess they feel safe with it.

Hubs' business trip to Hawaii keeps getting pushed back. Right now they're trying for the first half of Thanksgiving week. If that doesn't work with everyone's schedules, they were looking at Dec. 15. I informed him that he should inform them that sending him to Hawaii by himself over his 25th wedding anniversary was A Very Bad Thing and that serious consequences would ensue. And no, I wasn't interested joining him in a 3- or 4-day dash a quarter of the way around the globe and back, even if it could be arranged. That's too little time that far away to be messing up my body clock that severely. So anyway, I still don't know what we're doing for Thanksgiving. I hope one of my SILs is having a family meal...

Daughter wants me to send her the URL for this blog. What, a 14-year-old can't Google it? Granted, I'm about seven pages in if you use nothing but "Camera Obscura," but still... I figured she was already reading it.

Why is the tea always gone?

Why is the dryer always buzzing?

I went to a cooking class on appetizers held by the local grocery store chain with Nail Tech and her mom's Beta Sigma Phi chapter last night. A couple of the recipes were brilliant, a few were so-so, and one was downright terrible. As in "I can't believe anyone thought this was a good idea" and "nobody in a group of 20 women finished it" terrible. People who know me personally will not believe I can say this: it had asparagus and blue cheese in the recipe and it was a waste of both ingredients.

BTW Waveflux, you never gave me / blogged the recipe for Red Pepper soup. *casts a gimlet eye towards Dogtown* And I'm still interested in some sage, if you've got some you'd like to get rid of. I'll come get it. *realizes she should have thought of that the last time she had to go down to StL Strings shop*

I have to hit the grocery store and the food-club store today, and OF COURSE it's raining. And cold.

I think more tea is called for.

Ooh, I should probably haul Daughter to see if they can fix her glasses this afternoon.
