Setting the Scene and Cast of Characters

Now that somebody besides my relatives reads this thing, it's worth adding the info.

There are two ways I could do an "About Me" page with iBlog: make it a blog entry and put a separate link in the sidebar for when the entry scrolls out of sight, or teach myself enough HTML to make a whole web page, duplicate the look of the blog, and link in the sidebar. I opt for the easy way.

About the Camera:

I'm a middle-aged SAHM in a far-west suburb of St. Louis, MO. I've got a B.S. in Computer Science from the state engineering college. I'm a details person, but I will fret myself silly organizing something. I lean left politically, to my parents' dismay (although they don't fuss at me about it, bless 'em). I'm a little artsy-craftsy. I take decent photographs of things that stand still, but it's with an old digital camera on automatic. I've lived in states on both sides of the Mississippi River from here south, just north of El-Lay, and just south of London, U.K. I'm not from around here, so it does the locals no good to ask where I went to high school. (And I'm very bad about using too many parenthetical remarks.)

Dramatis Personae:

Hubby Obscura: A couple of years older. We met at college -- he's got a couple of degrees in aeronautics, and works in that field. Local boy. Verrrry tolerant fellow. Hockey fan. Old airplanes fan.

#1-Son: Junior in high school this fall (2007). Very intelligent, very un-athletic, the social world is pretty much a puzzle to him. Plays cello. Loves math. Reads incessantly. Is talking Physics as a career. Looks like we'll be doing the college-campus tours during spring break and summer next year.

#2-Son: Sophomore in high school this fall. Very high-functioning autistic but not "just Aspergers," has other cognitive and physical problems, still very intelligent where he is able. Loves: music, holidays, swimming, video games, travel, animals -- especially sea life. Would be happy to live at (or in) an aquarium.

Daughter: Eighth grade this fall. The only social child, but not a queen bee. Intelligent, but doesn't much care. Artistic -- plays viola and dulcimer, draws and paints, cross-stitches and latch-hooks, acts, danced for a while. Likes sports, but does not play at a competitive level.

School Information:

Our kids attend public school. The boys' high school is Large High School (LHS) in Rockin' School District. The girl goes to Whadda Middle School (WMS). Our elementary school was Great Place Elementary School, from which we live catty-cornered. Part of our middle school population will attend Ever-So-Far High School (EHS) which is about 5 miles south of us, so our middle school orchestra concerts tend to be with orchestras from that high school and their other feeder middle school.

Supporting Cast:

Hubby's dad is retired in Florida, living with his wife. Hubs has older sisters and a twin sister, all local; all their kids are older than ours, some to the point of getting married and having their own kids. All are generally referenced by birth order.

My mom and her husband live in SW Missouri; my dad and his wife are in Alabama. I have younger brothers and sisters, all out-of-town; all their kids are much younger than ours. Those with blogs get their blogger name (or the name given to their relatives on the blog), other are referenced by location or birth order, because I'm an inconsistent cuss.

As usual, the new sidebar stuff doesn't show up in category references until a new entry is added to the category, and won't ever show up for stuff referenced by date that was posted before this month.
