Black Forest Birthday Cake

The Camera's interpretation thereof

There it is, four teetering layers of dark chocolate / cherry / whipped cream craziness. The layers kept falling apart when I split them in two, and since I just kinda stuck them back in place with whipped cream they'll probably do the same when I slice it. Not to mention what's going to happen to that pile of cherries in the middle of the top...

I made two round layers of dark chocolate cake and split them in half horizontally. Between the halves of each layer I put cherry pie filling. Between the two "whole" layers I put whipped cream and dark chocolate shavings. I covered the whole thing with whipped cream and decorated with more dark chocolate shavings and some left-over cherries. It's too damn tall to put the cover on the cake keeper!

Because of the pie filling and the whipped cream, this should just get more moist the longer it lasts. But I don't expect it to last very long.

Happy Birthday to Hubby Obscura!

Birthday bleg of my own: my 8" round cake pans have sloping sides, which means all my layers are wider where they start to crown than they are at the bottom. Makes for very awkward cake stacking, even if you get radical and slice off the crowns. Could I please have straight-sided round cake pans for my birthday?
