Rob Zelzer

Rob originally hails from Nichols Wisconsin where he learned the piano from his mother who was and is a piano teacher. Later he learned the saxophone and stand up bass and played in high school varsity jazz band. He began playing bass in local bands after high school and soon found himself on the road with traveling bands that included Nytryx out of Little Chute Wisconsin, Split Image out of Minneapolis Minnesota, Frontline out of Piguet Arkansas and Mickey’s Skitz out of Minneapolis. With this band he recorded several albums in Los Angeles playing both electric bass and tenor saxophone.

Rob invested in a sound and light company business with a partner which became Northern Sound and Lighting. With his company he was in charge of doing shows with the likes of Head East, Kansas, Alice Cooper, Eddie Money and many more big acts traveling around the country.

Later Rob landed a job playing stand up bass in the house band in an upscale resort in the Catskills called The Pines. The resort occasionally featured some famous name acts and Rob had the privilege of backing up Sammy Davis Jr., Barbara Streisand and old blue eyes himself Frank Sinatra.

Eventually Rob found himself touring the great midwest and met the love of his life, Becky and decided to leave his rambling days and put down roots in our area.

Rob is the newest addition of Balderdash with many years of professional bass playing under his belt. He also adds his lead vocals as well as his high vocals to the Balderdash harmonies along with his smiley and witty countenance.

Rob’s hobbies now include bird watching, craft work and playing whist card tournaments. He is an avid Star Wars fan and attends conventions all over the country often coming dressed in his famous Darth Vader costume greeting everyone with his "may the farce be with you" greeting. He takes great pride in his worm farm and his Zamfir record collection.
