FYI (from the Midwest website)- The U.S. Army Herald Trumpets from Washington, D.C. demonstrate their high-level musical mission by performing selections from their standard repertoire and discussing how they and the individual instruments are utilized in ceremonies from The White House to the Super Bowl.

The Herald Trumpets will also make their annual appearance on the “Christmas in Washington” program which will be recorded live on December 11. I don’t know the specific air date, but it usually airs a couple of times on TNT during the week before Christmas.

Glenn aka "Gleeeenn" aka "de Glennn!" (thanks, Molly!) Roberts never fell very far from Potsdam. (Did my master's there with Doc, too! And had some fantastic playing experiences, thanks to Doc.) After teaching in Queensbury, Saratoga Springs and finally a 10 year stint in Clifton-Fine (in Star Lake), doing everything from k-8 general, music in our lives and music theory to hs band, I have arrived at Lisbon. During my time at C-F, I became quite frustrated with teaching in such a small school, and made my way down to Albany to audition for the Albany Symphony. And even though that didn't work out, other things did. I still play with the Northern Symphonic Winds, play for some area shows, and adjudicate for NYSSMA. Jill and I have 4 children (to quote the youngest, Gabriel, "Too bad you couldn't take your eyeballs out and look at them. That would be neat!")

Let's see, Jay. Memories...dah dah dah dah dah dah daaahh...My mute falling out during Kennan on my first recital! (Oops!) Having Joe Gallante congratulate me on Haydn after my half hour. (Wow!) The "french thing"..."Ooh ho hoh...SACRE BLEU!" "SauzEECH!" Along with Molly...hearing Ken play for the first time in major class. My first dialogue with Doc on upcoming ensemble auditions during freshman orientation about Bitcshe #7: "I don't have a Bi_ ch book". (Yeah, I said it like that...little did I know...) Brass quintet with Jay. Finally making principal in orchestra, and playing Saint-Saens organ Symphony and Roman Carnival. Brock doing Messiah at his final Crane Chorus concert...from memory (with Ken playing principal.) Freshman orientation with Parisi..."You have penny?" My Entourage of case carriers for my level C's. (Guess I needed a bigger case?) Playing mock auditions for each other...and most importantly, a feeling of family and comraderie among the studio. Yes, competition was there, but we always managed to be supportive to each other.

John Piazza Jr.- After earning my Masters in Jazz Studies in 1995, I joined Carnival Cruise Lines. I have been a working musician and Musical Director for the company for nearly 10 years. There are 11 venues on board that support live music. I manage nearly 30 musicians and run the 10 piece showband. I have taken 2 ships out on their maiden voyages (Spirit & Conquest). In June I will debut Carnivals first extensive European itinerary aboard Carnivals newest ship, the Carnival Liberty. My wife and I met on the Fantasy and married 3 years ago. We have been together for nearly 10 years. Her name is Catherine. Catherine is from England and is a dancer for Carnival. We are both retiring from the company in March of 2006. Catherine wants to have babies and I want to go back to school so that I can grow up to be just like Doc. There are too many memories. Many of them I set on fire long ago. I like to think they soar with the Hawk. One day when I slow down perhaps the Hawk will pay me a visit.

Jay Posteraro here....known back in the day as"Bird"...among other things!  I am living in San Diego with my wife, Lisa and daughter, Rachel.  I have been teaching middle school band to 500 kids for the past 11 years!  I am also staying very active as a trumpet player performing with a variety of brass groups and doing whatever trumpet stuff comes my way....not as much lead stuff anymore...sorry Molly!...although I have done a couple of shows playing lead! :-)

It is hard to believe it has been 20 years since the most awesome trumpet class came through Doc's studio!  We rocked the world!  We set the standard for how all others were to be judged!:-)  We had a fabulous time and the memories are too numerous to list here...well...here are a few...

  • "Jay...would you like to put this problem on the board?....no, that's ok.  I'll take the zero."
  • James G. Posteraro....what does the G stand for?  "Great"
  • Who is Molly dating from the trumpet studio now?
  • We let the trombone studio win at softball....
  • I wonder what class started the name "Doc?"....
  • Frisbee Football at Doc's house for the trumpet party...
  • Jazz Ensemble Tour to Ohio State University with Herm Matlock...
  • Jay thinking Joe Parisi gave him a three trumpet gig bag then finding out my mom sent it and Joe delivered it!...I was crying in my dorm room from happiness!
  • That last day in Potsdam.....what a sad day......going into Doc's office and bawling my eyes out!.....thank you Doc for helping me get to where I am today.

I think we need to add a memories page....it would be fun to see what other things people remember!

My band website is: pusd.info/teachers/jposteraro/

Molly (Sprague) Kurent is celebrating her second anniversary as Director of Marketing and Development for the University of Vermont's Department of Theatre in Burlington, VT. She is selling alot of tickets, creating print and radio ads, posters (minus the giant black markers and polaroids of Parisi) and fundraising. Basically everything I was doing at Crane but I now get paid and it is all computerized! I did not get to see Roussey while watching my beloved Patriots win what is that a 3rd Superbowl in 4 years? but I have seen Keisuke in I don't know how many commercials over the years. One of the greatest moments performing in master class was making Piazza and Parisi cry after playing Ave Maria. I always was partial to the slow movements. Also hearing Ken Cottrell play for the first time...wow...he was that good. I sincerely miss all of my buds from Doc's VERY FIRST trumpet studio and wouldn't be great if we could all go back for even a day and do it all over again? Just for master class, group lessons were nasty:)
Take care all and I think of you often.
Molly "Ankles" Sprague Kurent.

Joe Parisi, Assistant Prof. of Music at UMKC Conservatory of Music, had Charlie Geyer perform with his concert band in a recient concert.

Keisuke Hoashi will be making a guest appearence on "The King of Queens", April 13th at 9:00 pm EST on CBS.  He is also currently in comercials for H&R block and ING.  He will also be joining the staff of the Hartwick Summer Music Festival this summer.  Check out his stuff at his management site, http://www.legendmanagement.com

Did you all see Chris Roussey, member of the Army Band and Army Herald Trumpets, on TV at the Super Bowl?  Very Cool!!
