1987-2000: Introduction of the Map Base

This year marked the return to two marker plates and the adoption of a logo, a picture of the state placed in the upper left corner.  The motto “CONSTITUTION STATE” and the state name “CONNECTICUT” were retained, but their positions were now reversed from the previous type.  The white-on-blue color scheme and the base material of aluminum were retained.  For new passenger registrations the three number followed by a dot and three-letter display form continued to be employed.  The first of the new series to be issued was 100.EVY with the final ones having an NWG suffix.  The suffix letters LAA through LZZ were not used; being reserved for the Long Island Sound special interest plate series.

From 1937 to 1986 an expiration tab or sticker had been provided for each marker issued.  This long-standing practice was changed with the introduction of the map base marker.  Since then only one sticker has been required for each pair of markers.  It should be placed to the right of the state name on the marker that is mounted on the rear of the vehicle.
