1974-1976: The Polyvend Years

The state turned to an Arkansas vendor for a new series of steel markers that were painted a medium blue over a cream base.  These markers, nicknamed Polyvends for the company that produced them, featured the “CONSTITUTION STATE” motto at the top, marking the first time any slogan appeared on Connecticut plates.  The name of the state continued to be spelled out across of the marker bottom.  The top right corner of the marker contained a defined area just inside the raised border intended for expiration sticker placement.  For new passenger registrations the numbers issued were from SA 1000 to SZ 9999, PA 1000 to PZ 9999 and TA 1000 to TZ 9999.

In spite of their fresh look these markers were not well received by the public as they lacked durability.  The blue paint was especially fragile and would deteriorate rapidly with repeated cleaning, and the markers were prone to warping and rusting.  They were discontinued after two years.
