1914-1916: The Last of the Porcelains

The appearance of the 1914 markers was significantly different than earlier state practice.  For the first time the state was actually identified with “CONN” placed vertically on the left side and the year of issue, also vertically, on the right.  The new marker size was considerably smaller than those used from 1910-1913 and were once again made by the Brilliant Mfg. Co. in New York.  To lower the cost to the state they were made of thin steel with a lighter coating of porcelain.  The block style of numbers and letters was abandoned in favor of a more rounded look.  The colors changed each of the years with 1914 featuring white letters and numbers on a green background.  For 1915 the color combination was yellow on black, with 1916 being off-white on black
