Thunder and Lightning

oh now feel it comin' back again

Last night I was caught in the thunderstorm that swept through DC. I think I was about three miles from my apartment when the first drops started to hit me, but I figured that it wouldn't go from drizzle to downpour in the next 20 minutes. I was wrong. Dead wrong.

I've always thought that I could probably run faster and longer if I was being chased by a dog. It turns out that nothing motivates like being able to count the seconds between thunder and lightning on one finger. It turns out that there is actually a "pop" sound before the actual rumbling of thunder reaches your ear. At least, that's what I heard as I tried to jump through puddles and dodge slow moving cars in my mad dash home.

As an aside, I got a request for my favorite songs of the moment. I really haven't been listening to anything specific. I just let the ipod shuffle. That said, here are the five songs from 2005 that I've enjoyed the most so far, here at the halfway point.

Bettie Serveert - Don't Touch that Dial
Bright Eyes - Take It Easy (Love Nothing)
Bright Eyes - We Are Nowhere and It's Now
Decemberists - The Sporting Life
Of Montreal - The Party's Crashing UsĀ
