Roadhouse
|
From NY Theater dot com:
Producers Timothy Haskell, Tanya Bershadsky and Michael Voyer in association with Andrea Ciannavei are proud to present the unlikeliest of films to be made into a stage play--Road House: The Stage Version of The Cinema Classic That Starred Patrick Swayze, Except This One Stars Taimak From The 80s Cult Classic The Last Dragon Wearing a Blonde Mullet Wig (can be reduced, if you must, to Road House: The Stage Play).
Road House, the stage version, is a deconstructed, and comical, versionĀ of this modern-day western B-movie from 1989. It's about an internationally revered bouncer hired to clean up a small-town dive, only to get sucked into the local politics, biting off more than he can chew... or has he? This will be a completely kinetic production using cinematic techniques: miniature sets, foley artists, and breathtaking action sequences and bar room brawls unlike anything ever seen in the live theatre. This heightened style is designed to highlight the underlying misogyny, violence, and homophobia/eroticism of films of the genre... as well as to blow the lid off the place.
"I have no intention of camping this up. The film on stage, trust me, will be enough. Although there will be some distinct stylistic choices, this is not a musical (we're calling it a 'brawlsical'--everywhere there is typically some camp musical number we have a fight), tongue-in-cheek (overtly), or a drama (certainly not). Trust me, I know what kind of film this is,' says director Timothy Haskell. 'I want to get to the bottom of why so many seemingly smart people can quote lines from this film." |
