St Joseph to Sioux Falls, SD, then on to Mitchell, SD

Visiting the Tylers in Sioux Falls

Distance: ~ 385 miles

I am writing this entry much after the fact, so some of the details are not clear to me any longer. We woke up and ate breakfast in the hotel. Arne took all the stuff to the car while Nina and I went to get food. I ordered for him, and then felt really bad when the food came and he wasn't there yet. Luckily it wasn't completely cold by the time he was able to join us. I had really bad tea, but got my caffeine fix at least. The drive to Sioux Falls was not too long, and we made it there in the early afternoon. Maureen and Ray (Nina's Great Grandparents) were staying with Maureen's aunt Lois. They are really good old friends with much in common. We had an absolutely lovely dinner, sitting in the back of the house. Nina loved playing with a gate near the garage and exploring the back yard and garden. We had a very nice chat with everyone. The house was lovely, but was full of the fragile and lovely things that grandmothers everywhere have. We managed not to break anything. Great Grandpa took a little nap in the middle of the visit, and Nina commented on him sleeping. She was a doll and warmed up to everyone quickly. I only wish that we had found our camera for pictures with everyone. When the sun was getting low we packed back up and drove to Mitchell, since the drive to Rapid City was going to be a long one the next day. The only problem was that Mitchell was full of people, and we almost didn't find a room. It was late enough that we didn't want to exercise the tent the first time in the dark, so we were lucky.
