Becky and I are engaged!

After
two years of dating, on June 19th, Becky and I are engaged!
A funny thing happened in NYC
...I was meaning to propose on
Sunday in the park. But I had my ring on me on Saturday, in case I changed my
mind.We arrived on Saturday. Friday
would have been stressful with leaving work and getting into the city. Besides,
on a Friday we wouldn't get in until 10. So, it was a Saturday we left at. Got
in the city around 3, killed time by walking around the hotel (on 30th and
Lexington, right where the tourists like to be.). I had reservations at Tao on
58th near the park. I had the ring on me at all times because 1. I'm NOT leaving
that in the hotel room and 2.) plans CAN
change. So, we went to dinner (a
cab ride made it easier than figuring out the subway) and had a great asian
meal. The restaurant was crowded and tables were real close together, so I
decided that option was out. We finished our meal and we headed outside. Not
really having a plan after that and seeing we still had daylight outside AND
seeing as we were close to the park I thought a short walk could be in
order. So, we got to the park.
Walked past the zoo and went as far as we could with Becky and her fancy shoes.
So, we turned around. We walked near the Dairy (or as most call it, the
visitors' center) at dusk. And what was a great night. Clear skies, warm weather
made that part happen. I sat her down and described what she and our
relationship meant to me. And I stood up, pulled a ring out of my pocket for a
woman on the verge of tears, got on one knee and asked her (who was now in
complete tears) to marry me. After several, repeated answers of "yes" (in case I
missed the first several), we kissed and hugged and talked about it. We had
people walking by, but I didn't seem to care and I'm sure Becky was unaware of
anything else. I had placed the ring on her finger (scared it wouldn't fit ...
even though I had her ring size) and we walked together to the entrance of the
park as we had come in ... but this time in a more betrothed
sense.
Where the magic
happened.We took a horse
and carriage ride (if there was a time to take one ... that was the moment) and
held each other and looked the ring and smiled ... kissed
..etc.We then found a small bar
and had drinks next to our hotel and talked about what happened and was was to
happen.Even though I planned on
Bethesda Plaza on a nice Sunday day, I couldn't hold out. The night just seemed
... perfect.And it
was.So, we're looking at April.
And I hope you'll be able to make it. And of course I'll keep you
posted.
I said "yes" to a Guschl.
What the ...?
