Rob's Oktoberfest

James and I took our second trip into northern Connecticut for our old friend Rob's annual Oktoberfest celebration/drinkfest.

Leaving from work early on Friday, we fought traffic all afternoon so we could get to Rob's house in time to do some good ol' drinking/catching up. We arrived shortly after 8 p.m., only to be wisked away again for more driving. Our destination was a bar outside of Hartford, Conn. After picking up two of Rob's Phoenix buddies, we hit the bar and drank. Good times.

OK. That was day 1. The next night, Saturday, was the real purpose of our trip.

Rob's Oktoberfest. We were told how great it was the year prior and thought, "hey, let's drop everything in our lives, drive up to Connecticut and damage our livers a little more." And so, that's what we did. But first, we needed to prepare.

So, after lunch to soak up the night prior's booze we got the alcohol for the night that would surely make the next day absolute hell for me.

But here they are. A keg of Spaten Oktoberfest and Beck's.

Next, we needed ice.

Ice, indeed. 220 lbs. of it, baby. So, if you want to know what James' weight in ice looks like. It's something like the image above.

So, the kegs were iced and we were ready to move on.

Next up: sausage. Rob bought a lot of Keilbasa for the event along with Keilbasa's best friend, sauerkraut. For those who lives focus around 1942 ... Liberty Cabbage.

For the rest of us: Sauerkraut.

The sausage was diced up and tested ...

... and finished. Into the oven it went.

So, the night began with drinking. And more drinking. The keg was tapped at 5:30 in the p.m. and went throughout the night.

And the spread was put out for the guests. Mmm. Processed meats.

Here are the highlights.

I'm going to need to take away Rob and Kerry's Hallmark Gold card.

Glug, glug.

Rob gets in James' way.

James, who doesn't drink like the rest of us wanted to watch his programs.

So, after everyone had a good start with their drinking, a nice game of Flip Cup was organized.

Kerry, Rob's wife, was talking a lot trash talk that night. She did beat me on a one-on-one Flip Cup game. Hey Kerry, was it a game of Celtic Flip Cup? Ah, nevermind.

bigeric.com had to show everyone how much he ruled at this game.

Only to sustain the world's first Flip Cup injury.

bigeric.com suffered a knee injury. He may be out for the season.

As the night went on, Rob and Kerry's decoration's became bad influences.

But, was cool. We became good friends.

I think that's when the French cigarettes and shots came into play for the evening.

And, of course, Millie loved everyone. And I love Millie. See Millie in the image below? Aww.

So, the night had just about all of Rob's visitor's returning their drinks and food to the toilet. From 5:30 a.m. on, there was a constant run for the bathroom. All in good fun, though. I payed for it on Sunday. Thank God James drove me home.

Thanks, to Rob and Kerry for a great party. Let's do it again next year!
