IMPORTANT DEADLINES TO REMEMBER
August 1st - Additional training for salary schedule advancement shall be allowed effective for the full year, provided the teacher notifies the personnel department in writing by August 1st of all the coursework completed, or to be completed.

November 1st - Official transcripts showing all necessary coursework that is required for lane change for the spring semester must be submitted to the personnel office by November 1st.

January 15th - Additional training for salary schedule advancement shall be allowed effective for the second semester, provided the teacher notifies the personnel department in writing by January 15th of all the coursework completed, or to be completed.

February 1st
- A written request for transfer to another building must be submitted to the personnel office.

February 1st
- Job share applications must be submitted to the building principal.

February 1st
- Written notification of your intent to retire must be submitted to the personnel office four years prior to your retirement year.

February 1st
- A written request for a change in leave of absence status must be submitted to the personnel office. Teachers in their first or second year of a leave of absence must notify the personnel office of their intent to return to work in the following school year, to make a request to extend their leave of absence, or to resign their position.

March 30th
- Official transcripts showing all necessary coursework that is required for lane change for the fall semester must be submitted to the personnel office by March 30th.

June 1st - National Board Teacher Certification   A $12,000 pool of money is available each fiscal year for reimbursement to staff members for NBTC application, renewal and retake fees. To be eligible for these funds, teachers need to apply in writing to the personnel office by June 1st of each year.

On or about August 1st
the District will inform an honorably dismissed teacher of the procedure to be followed for maintaining an active application on file. Teachers on a recall list must annually submit a written request to the personnel office to remain an active candidate.

A written request for parental leave for the birth of a child
must be submitted to the personnel office prior to the birth of the child. Written notification must also be submitted prior to reinstatement.

A written request for parental leave for the adoption of a child
must be submitted to the School Board not less than sixty days prior to the requested leave.

Open Enrollment Changes for Tax-Sheltered Annuity Plans will take place twice a year, between October 15th and November 15th for a December 1st effective date and between March 15th and April 15th for a May 1st effective date.

Filing a Grievance
- Ordinarily, action to remedy a grievance including the filing of a grievance will take place within fifteen school days of the incident or pattern of incidents being grieved.

School Board Policies and Procedures   Things You Should Know  The School Board has numerous policies and procedures in place that govern district practices, some of which directly impact our employment. It is incumbent upon our membership to be familiar with them, especially those that deal with personnel.  Please look them over.
The Rights & Responsibilities Committee  Addresses Complaints and Grievance Issues  Our contract provides that whenever there is a violation of our contract language a grievance may be filed. Check out our Committees to see who is on our R & R Committee. We also have a Complaint Resolution Process defined in our contract (Article XVI, Section C) that protects us from unnecessary, or unjustified criticism, complaints or discipline by supervisory personnel. Check out the details in our Contract.
Building Liaison Network In Place   Association Representation Available  Our contract provides that whenever you have a meeting with an administrator, such as your principal, you are entitled to have an ATA representative in attendance. Two people have been identified at each building to serve in that capacity. Check out our Executive Board to see who it is at your building.
Recertification Process Consolidated    ECS is Up and Running     The Illinois State Board of Education has combined their two websites (CeRTS) and (OTIS) into one, the Educator Certification System (ECS) where we can now take care of our certification and certificate renewal process in one location. Religious Holidays   Convert Sick Days to Personal Days  You now have the option to convert a sick day to an additional personal day if you choose to use one of your personal days to observe a religious holiday.
Job Vacancies Posted    District Job Openings Posted Online     Just in case you weren't aware, you can automatically be informed when a job becomes available in our district. Insurance Benefits Have Changed   Effective January 1, 2007   Several policy changes have been made to our health insurance coverage, including increased coverage for physical therapy and the cost of birth control pills. All changes go into effect in 2007. Get all the insurance info details and answers to FAQs for full-time, job-share and part-time staff.

3-Day Doctor's Note Rule   According to Illinois School Code  State school code says a "school board may require a certificate from a physician ... as a basis for pay during leave after an absence of 3 days for personal illness, or as it may deem necessary in other cases".  Click here to read the District memo.
