Arkansas Trip

Eureka Springs and the Ozarks were not a bad choice for this off-off-season vacation.

We stayed at this historic hotel, the Crescent, built in 1886.
It's on the highest point in Eureka Springs.
The view from my room.
Toof enjoys the veranda.
A church behind the hotel, where you must enter through the bell tower.
The back view.
A view of the back balconies.
Day trip: the Ozarks. Destination: Hawk's Beak Crag. (That's not it.)
A horse we encountered on the way.
We reach the top of some mountain by car--then the hiking begins.
I take breaks along the way to shoot interesting textures.

About 50 million broken shards of rock later . . .
We finally make it.
We ignore the scenery to figure out how to operate the self-timer.
Oh . . . forget the self-timer.
More interesting textures
A last shot before starting the long journey back to Eureka Springs.
Downtown Eureka Springs is great for shopping and lunching.
We snap a few shots before the rain begins.
One last glimpse before we head out to Ft. Smith to see friends.
On the way we visited Thorncrown Chapel.
It's won awards for architecture.
It's very beautiful and calm there.
The interior structure was impressive.
Our next stop was War Eagle Mill to eat and buy stone ground stuff.
The water wheel

Inside, the grains are ground.
The bridge behind the mill.
Toof before his daily meds.
After: Thank goodness we renewed his prescription!
We arrive in Ft. Smith to our hosts, Jen and Pat. New Year's Eve is spent at this Japanese Steak House.
Nearly midnight! Happy New Year!
