The Three Stooges® have resurfaced in their first new short subject in over fifty years in a project produced by Famous Frames Mobile Interactive, with the authorization and cooperation of C3 Entertainment . The new "mobisode", entitled The Grate Debate, has the boys running for president.  This animated short subject features the voices of Alan Semok as "Larry", Jim Skousen as "Moe", and Dave Knight as "Curly"

Live Appearances

Knight, Skousen, and Semok as Howard, Howard, and Fine

Alan has also lately been seen in Las Vegas and Charlotte NC for ACTION ENTERTAINMENT at several NASCAR and AHRA events, representing  the Stooges in various "in person" appearances with his finely honed portrayal of Larry Fine.

Since 1995 Alan has worked on select projects under the umbrella of C-3 Entertainment (Glendale, CA), providing the recorded voice of "Larry" (and often "Moe" as well!)  as well as live appearances.  C-3 Entertainment is the company originally set up by The Three Stooges themselves in 1959.

C-3 continues to administer all rights to the Stooge characters.

DUMMY---The Movie!

Alan has lent his internationally recognized expertise in the field of ventriloquism to a variety of film projects, including one entitled DUMMY

Be sure to watch for Alan in the role of "Professor Parlepancia" in the 2003 Lionsgate/Artisan Entertainment feature film DUMMY (starring Academy Award winner Adrien Brody) in current frequent syndicated airings on television.

Alan appears in the film in  a small cameo role.

See it here Please allow a minute for the media file to load!!  (mp4 video)

In addition to designing and constructing the film's title character, he served as the ventriloquial technical advisor on the project and spent several weeks personally coaching Adrien Brody in the techniques of ventriloquism and puppet manipulation. The film was shot on location in and around New York City.  The film opened in New York and Los Angeles and played in a number of cities, and was subsequently released on DVD homevideo. The film is distributed by Artisan Entertainment (a division of Lion's Gate).

The film's director and producers all had very high praise for the effectiveness of Alan's instructional skills, as did the film's star, who performed the film's ventriloquial and puppetry live on set with no need for dialogue looping.

"VARIETY" covers "DUMMY"

Alan's picture taken at the premiere of DUMMY (alongside the film's title character...his creation), made VARIETY's September 15th 2003 issue...see the photo and article here!

Alan was brought in by the film's producers and director to personally teach the art of ventriloquism to Adrien Brody for this production.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL

Alan was back on stage at New Jersey's Chatham Playhouse for the 8th time since 1994 as Ebeneezer Scrooge in William Phillip McKinley's original musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic tale of redemption.  The production was directed this time around by Bob Cline and had a successful and sold out run.  The adaptation was written especially for the Chatham Playhouse and had its first production in 1987.

In a newspaper poll following an article about various productions of the Dickens classic on various New Jersey stages, readers crowned Alan the "Uber Scrooge" by a gratifying and surprisingly wide margin!

ALAN ON TELEVISION

HISTORY DETECTIVE

Alan (wearing his "other" hat as the internationally known "Dummy Doctor") appeared as a "guest expert" on an episode of the PBS series HISTORY DETECTIVES. The program segment revolves around an interesting search concerning the origins and provenance of a 90 year old ventriloquial dummy, purporting to be directly related to Edgar Bergen's famous "Charlie McCarthy". You'll have to tune in to see the results of this splintery genealogy search......check your local PBS listings for frequent repeat airings in the coming months.

also on P B S... a  history portrayal

Alan's AMERICAN EXPERIENCE episode entitled THE DUEL, which was originally broadcast nationally on PBS stations in the early part of 2000, still continues to air on PBS stations around the country in frequent repeat showings. (July 2004 marked the 200th anniversary of the famous duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr).  The film has also been picked up by many schools around the country and is shown in the classroom as a faithful depiction of events surrounding the infamous duel involving two of our founding fathers.

In this film (shot on location in May of 1999), Alan portrays Vice President AARON BURR in re-enactments of the events leading up to the famous duel (as a result of which Hamilton died) The first person narratives (are taken from Burr's own writings) and are read by Brian Dennehy and Rene Auberjonois. Be sure to check local listings for exact time and channel for frequent continuing repeat broadcasts!

A brief trailer for the film is available for viewing here as an mp4 video (7.2mb file).

The file will open in a new browserwindow.  Please allow a minute for the media file to load!!

(The complete program will hopefully soon become available once again for homevideo use directly from PBS).

RECORDINGS

VOCALIST

Alan has also been in the recording studio on a number of exciting musical projects, including two for composer and musical director PETER JONES (protege of, and archivist for the great musical theatre living legend Stephen Sondheim) ; in the first, a new musical adaptation of PEYTON PLACE, Alan portrayed the deceased "Lucas" , revisiting his wife in a ghostly musical vision.

The most recent Peter Jones project was a new work (in collaboration with Dianne Hinson) entitled DO-JANE, featuring Alan as a drill seargent in what could very well be destined to go down in musical theatre history as the most surreal 8 minutes of show music ever recorded!

SONGWRITER / KEYBOARDIST

Still in the works is FISHFACE (working title).... a collection of original music by Alan Semok & Joe Barbarotta which has been a "work in progress" for more than 30 years, with very limited distribution of various versions.

For a limited time, one of the tracks from the project is in playlist rotation at internet music site www.jango.com

(In the "enter artist name" field,  type in FISHFACE to hear a track entitled "Road Music" . The song was written by Semok/Barbarotta, and the track was recorded in January 1974; Joe handles the lead vocal duties and bass guitar on this one, with Alan on keyboards, the late Gene Antol on lead guitar, Bob Agrillo on drums, and Robert "Harpo" Smith on percussion. )

Yet another limited edition release of the entire album (with much new material added) will appear on the AEOLIPILE label sometime soon.

(no flying pig jokes, please...)
