Thanksgiving Feast for one!

Wow. It's been a long time since I did a Kitchen entry on here.

Thanksgiving is upon us. I don't mean "us" in the terms of "me and anyone else in my household;" just a general "us who live in a country that celebrates the holiday of Thanksgiving on the 4th Thursday of the month of November, and anyone else so inclined."

I rarely have the opportunity to cook for Thanksgiving. Because of the schedule of my life, I am often away from a kitchen at this holiday -- last year I was in Afghanistan; the year before I was visiting China (although that's a copout, I know -- I could have stayed home and cooked, and missed out on seeing China). Year before that I was flying home from Korea. Year before that I was in Afghanistan again... you get the idea. Last time I cooked for Thanksgiving was in 2001.

And as you should all know, I love to cook. I have, however, no one here to eat with, so unfortunately I will have piles of food to eat... alone. It's all right, though, because during the creation process I actually forget about all that. I just make.

So tonight, I have made two pans of cornbread, two pans of biscuits (these are all for the dressing), two pies -- an Italian lemon custard pie and a chocolate chess pie, herb crackers, and dill dip. All of this is from scratch, you understand, except for the dip, which involves stirring a packet of seasoning into a combination of mayonnaise and sour cream.

So, the full menu for my solo meal tomorrow will be

Herb crackers with dill dip
Roast turkey
Cornbread dressing
Sweet potatoes with marshmallows
Green bean casserole
Crescent rolls (these are from the little exploding can things. Hel, I've already made two pans each of biscuits and cornbread; what more do you want?)

Chocolate chess pie
Torta al limone

An assortment of wines, bottle waters, and soft drinks.

So... what's on your Thanksgiving table? Comment in and share!
