The Vice President is Stalking Me
But at least we haven't gone
hunting...
Well... ummm... this is awkward. Y'see, I'm
writing this now, but by the time I get it posted, it will probably be very old.
Oh well, I may as well treat it as if it's going to be a timely entry.
So...
Greetings from Iraq! I'm back on
the Auld Sand, and leading a team of four here in Balad. It's hard to believe,
I know. Still, my employer apparently has more trust in me than some would
guess.
I've been here about a week, so
of course Dick Cheney has to show up. I'm annoyed, and it's not supposed to be
common knowledge yet (although everyone seems to know anyway; in a few meetings
I've heard it called merely the "not-so-secret secret").
And that bothers me. Y'see, the last
time that I was some place and the VP showed up, it was in Afghanistan. Perhaps
you remember the news stories about Cheney visiting Bagram Air Base, a suicide
bomber outside the gate, etc. It was a "not-so-secret secret" then as well, and
some good men died. A good friend of mine will never be the same, because he
lost someone under his command that day. I'll never be the same because that
good friend came to me to talk after having to go outside the gate and view the
remains.
So for obvious reasons, I
have serious issues with visits by the VP. I hope nothing like last time
happens again. I realize it's way too soon to try and establish a pattern, but
it makes me apprehensive. Regardless, tomorrow will bring what it brings, and
at least I'll have the knowledge that my loose lips didn't sink any ships. Cold
comfort, that, if anything does happen.
