It's been well over a month since my last entry.
Wow. I sound like I'm in a Catholic confession. Anyway, for anyone who reads
these adventures and lessons of my average life, I apologize for the delay. For
now, this is an Asatour update; hopefully I'll get around to something in the
Search for Meaning soon.
I had a
great time in the Smokies. I rode a train through the mountains (as mentioned
previously), courtesy of the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. Pictures, of
course, when I get them up. In the meantime, here is their website. In
Cherokee I attended the Christmas parade, which was a lot of fun. I did a lot
of wandering from shop to shop, ate well and slept better, and did some hiking in the
mountains.
On the other side
of the mountains, in Pigeon Forge, I went to Pigeon River String
Instruments to buy my first hammered dulcimer. I've been playing the
mountain dulcimer for years, but had never even touched a hammered dulcimer --
they're kind of intimidating at first, but in the long run, I think they're just
as easy to learn to play.
I returned
home to spend the holidays with my family. Shortly after Christmas, as soon as
the roads were clear enough for travel (we had a major ice storm and snowfall,
and were stranded for several days), I headed west to Albuquerque, to spend 12th
Night with Keeper of Seasons Hall.
Now
I'm preparing to take my second trip to Iraq. I begin heading there next week,
but don't believe I'll get there for about 2 to 3 weeks. I'll update when I
can, if I can, from there; obviously it may not be easy, but I managed to update
from Afghanistan, so here's hoping.
Stick with me, faithful readers!
There is more to come!
