The Quest for Health and Fitness

Now that I'm deployed again, I've found myself back in the gym. I hope to come home at least a little healthier than I was when I left. It's also a nice break from the strain of the office -- there's nothing like spending between 12 and 16 hours a day at work, and then being able to go to a place and do something that's totally different from what you did all day long.

I'm also eating healthier. Let's face it: eating healthy foods can be very expensive, so I'm taking advantage of the Dining Facilities here in Iraq to eat as nutritiously as possible. I need to lose some weight, to start with; I'd gotten back up to about 250, and had begun getting that feeling of pressure under my lowest set of ribs, from my belly pushing on them. It's uncomfortable, and it's stopped now, so I'm assuming I've managed to shed a few pounds. Part of eating healthier is knowing when not to eat at the Dining Facilities, and I avoid it as much as possible at breakfast. Everything there is SO good and SO fattening; I just stay in my room and eat a Nutri-Grain bar, then head straight to work. I'm eating more vegetables than meat at the other meals, and it hasn't been so bad.

I'm trying to work out every day. I just got back from the second (well, third, if you count the first night of aborted cardio) night of it. I did shoulders and back, and I don't pretend to be in good shape at the moment. It's not easy getting back into the gym, particularly when one is surrounded by people whose jobs require them to work out on a regular basis.

But that sounds whiney. I shouldn't be comparing my goals against anyone buy myself, and I already feel better (except for my left big toe; I dropped a 45 pound plate on it).

Anyway, slow news day. Ya'll take care!
