Just to Catch Everyone Up a Bit...

Hi, ya'll, and greetings from Afghanistan! I'm still here for another couple of weeks, and then I'll be returning to the States, at least for a little while.

With my time here almost done, it's a good time for me to look back on the deployment and what's changed.

First off, I'm lighter than when I got here. At one point during this deployment my weight was up to about 247 (since I am 6'2", this wasn't HORRIBLY obese, but it was chunky). I started dieting right before Christmas, and am now down to 214. Yay me! My goal is to fly home at 210 or less.

In other news, I have Asatour 2007 planned out. Thus far, it will start with a short trip to the Smoky Mountains, and then I'll be taking a 3 week tour of Italy, including an Italian cooking school. More on that in the Asatour folder.

Things have been a little rough here lately in Afghanistan. You may have seen on the news about the suicide bomber who was at the front gate during Cheney's visit. That was a very sad time around here. I didn't know any of the people personally, but I did have one degree of separation from the U.S. military guy who died. There was a very nice memorial service.

Other than that, I've been really busy. Let me know what ya'll have been up to.
