so annoyed

So, I called my travel agent yesterday to check up on how my travel arrangements for April are coming.

Travel Agent: Well, you're the only person who booked this tour [to Japan], but we can put you on the tour for May. Some other people signed up for that tour.

Me: I don't think so. You did the same thing to me the last time. I can't travel in May; I can only travel in April.

TA: Well, if only one person books a tour, we have to cancel that tour.

Me: Maybe you should move those other people to the April tour instead of trying to put me in the May tour. You see, I have to schedule my time off from work in advance at the beginning of the year. I've already got the time off for the April tour; it's impossible to change.

TA: I'll give it until the 15th of the month, and then I'll let you know if any more people have booked the April tour.

Me: Yeah, you need to let me know as soon as possible, so I can make other arrangements with a different tour company... one that knows what they're doing.

She seemed a little distressed at that last statement. But so what? They seriously did this to me before. They didn't tell me until the last minute that no one else had booked my China tour in September (for which I had made the reservations in January '04). It was August, and I went to their office to pay the balance of the tour. "Oh, well, no one else is on that tour, so... maybe you can go on a different date." It was merely by chance that I had a little bit of flexibility on either side of my original tour date. But this time I'm not screwing around. I want to go to Hong Kong, and I want to go to Japan. If this travel agency can't accommodate me, I'll find another one to take my $4200 to. I may not be living here in America for much longer, but as long as I am, I expect a certain level of service from businesses. So, that's that with that.
