"incredible" weekend

I saw The Incredibles this weekend with my good friend, Karen (who just secured a job with the Orange P.D. as a dispatcher--congrats, K). I have to say that The Incredibles is the best Pixar film yet. I knew it would be good, but I was surprised at just how good it was. The animation was excellent, the voice acting was excellent, and the story was, well... excellent. And interesting. And story (listen up, all you addle-brained movie execs), story is EVERYTHING. Anyway, it's truly a movie that will appeal to both children and adults. However, I must say this: the movie has a PG rating (rather than a G rating) for a reason. It's not really appropriate for very small children. Young children of possibly seven years and above will be fine, but the action might be a little too intense for the very wee tikes. There's actually gunplay, which surprised me a little bit for some reason.

Now, having said all that, it might be a good time to comment on some movie-going expectations I have to which I would like everyone to adhere. First of all, if you want to take your kids to the movies (and, yes, I am applying these rules even to those movies designated as "kids-friendly" movies, take them to a matinee. I am an adult. I go to the movies at night, and I have no desire to have my movie-watching experience sullied by the incessant ramblings of some chatty tot. Exceptions to this rule: if your child is exceptionally well-behaved and able to remain relatively silent for the duration of the film, by all means, feel free to bring the little urchin to a showing after 5PM. Otherwise, please don't. Furthermore, if your child begins to talk during the movie, please remind said infant to "shut it." If your children proceed to talk or cry or walk around or climb on the backs of the seats in front of them, remove the offending monkeys post-haste. Movies are expensive. Please don't ruin the experience for others. Thank you.

But the movie really was superb. Seriously, it was one of the best I've seen this year. Granted, this has been a really poor year for movies. I don't know what they're going to do at the Oscars next year. I predict it will be a big year for smaller, independent films.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention: Star Wars, Episode III, Revenge of the Sith. Saw the trailer before The Incredibles. It looks amazing. To see Darth Vader on the big screen again... it sent shivers down my spine. May 19th can't get here soon enough.
