xin nian quai le
At 8:01 AM (Pacific Standard Time) this morning
(technically, yesterday morning), my lovely girlfriend called me so that I could
wish her Happy New Year, or "xin nian quai le"--and I have no idea if that's the
proper pinyin spelling of the phrase. The clock had just struck midnight in
Yichang City, and I could hear the raucous bursts of fireworks in the
background. She sounded so happy. I wish I could have been there. Oh well,
there's always next year.
