I, geek

I confess. I am a Star Wars geek. As a kid, I had tons of original Star Wars action figures; they were my favorite toys. Later, when the newer action figures were released, I started buying them too... from a collecting standpoint, of course. I never took those out of the packages. I had originally set out to collect them all but soon fell behind and then gave up completely. But still... I love Star Wars. I wouldn't say I'm the biggest Star Wars geek out there, though. I mean, I don't know everything about it, but I do know a lot. I've even read many of the Star Wars novels. I've actually had conversations about why Boba Fett would kick IG-88's ass any day of the week and twice on Sundays. And it was not long ago that I stood in the DVD section of a local Target for at least 5 minutes, seriously deliberating whether or not I should buy the Ewok Adventures made-for-TV movies on DVD (a double-feature disc was only $10), but then I remembered how much I actually hate the Ewoks. I feel that they are to the original trilogy what Jar-Jar is to the prequels.

Yes, I'm a Star Wars geek. And despite the disappointing elements of TPM (The Phantom Menace) and AOTC (Attack of the Clones), I remain loyal. So, this morning when I viewed the new Revenge of the Sith trailer, I felt a renewed sense of excitement. I am so looking forward to everything coming together in the final installment. Some points of excitement for me: seeing the Emperor bust out with a lightsaber, wookies kicking butt, the expansion of that hot, blue Jedi-chick's role, the final duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan, and, of course, seeing Darth Vader again on the big-screen.

I am really looking forward to my trip to Hong Kong and Japan next month, and, although I know it will be sad to come back home from those places, I will take great comfort in the fact that, shortly thereafter, Episode III will be coming very soon to a theater near me. Embrace the geekiness. May the Force be with you.
