Dette er heilt sikkert ikkje sant, for eg har klypt dette frå eit suspekt diskusjonsforum på nettet. Men eg er ein sugar for slike rykte, og likar å tru at slikt kan skje, pluss at eg har ein svær nerd i magen (svært tydeleg dersom eg har ei stram t-skjorte på meg). Derfor (i høve Googles oppkjøp av Writely og diverse andre tenestar):

My friend [working at Google labs] states that he heard that Google is working on a networked based OS that would combine the majority of the products and services of Google and make them avaliable online. GDrive is part of that and it will actually run on Google's own distributed file system. The file system/CPU cycles will be on a distributed backend so you never have to worry about a slow CPU while you're on the Google network. He also said that Google is working with major hardware vendors to provide hardware that will cache the OS locally in solid state memory (Ex: Laptop without a platter HD, but with 10GB of solid state memory). The OS will be ad supported (The ads will be located on the desktop and will be directed specifically to what you are doing at that moment on the internet.) and since it's ad supported, the hardware will be free to the user. (Think the MIT $100 laptop... It wouldn't take much use of the laptop to recover the cost...) This is set to roll mid 2007."

Tja, kvifor ikkje? Litt omvendt av no, der krafta ligg lokalt på PC'en, men dette er jo unødvendig viss tenestane online (tekstbehandlar, lagring, filsøk og -organisering) er på plass. Ingen ny eller original tanke, men likefullt besnærande, for å bruke eit uttrykk som får Ivar Aasen til å rotere som eit tannlækjarborr i grava si.

Vel, eg imøteser ein lett, billeg og stille nettverks-laptop med 15 timars batterilevetid. Apple, kvifor leitar de i feil hjørne av Internett?
