| ain't no party like an Olio party...LIVE |
1. Mind
Did you end a relationship only to find the other person is obssesed
with you? Or are you obssesed with someone you can't let go? This
song explores the vivid imagination of someone obsessed. |
2. We Belong
The song was written during that magical time every relationship
goes through - the beginning stage. When romance and fire are
hot and exciting. Are you at the beginning? Have you made it last?
|
3. O-L-I-O (in the house)
De ad-libbed the hook at a rehearsal over a jam that was feeling
really good. He wrote the rap using song titles that are on the
live CD along with older song titles that aren't. Fun and entertaining,
the song's purpose is to introduce the spirit of the band and
get the crowd hyped. |
4. Keep It Strong
Are you focused on your goals? Do you go the extra mile for your
vision? This song goes out to those hard working, goal minded
folks that don't take no for an answer. |
5. Impress
Are you tired of meeting shallow people? Granted there are a lot
of physically attractive people in Los Angeles, but let's face
it when that's all they project it becomes very boring. I need
more than eye candy. Do you? |
6. Pride
The song was written to say no matter what, I'm proud of who I
am and I won't be a scape goat for anyone. Do you know someone
like this? Are you proud? |
7. Got A Life
All he wanted was a woman with her own goals and dreams to share
his life with. But she didn't understand that. Is that what you
need in mate? |
8. Sagacity
It was the time perid of Rodney King and the L.A. riots. The 1st
Verse deals with being black at a time when the civil rites movement
had made apparent leaps and bounds in the United States. Although
great progress had made, the pressure of being black was evident.
The 2nd Verse is Arif's point of view being of different heritage
and not having a conventional American name. The chorus of the
song says that young, white America is blind to all of this. They
have no idea that this racism still exists. Have things changed?
What's your point of view? |
9. Dead Man Walking
Have you seen a dead man walk? Written while witnessing the bums of Hollywood day in and day
out in 1995. Have you ever felt this way? |
10. Ah
Life at a desk job, pushing paper for people that you don't care
for and probably likewise. Ah is about going for your dreams and
passions and not letting anything get in your way. Definitely
a song about staying true to your heart and being positive. Are
you true? |
11. In My Shoes
A friend of Arif's had some pretty stellar marital problems. He
had found out that his wife had been hooked on cocaine for the
past year. They were over $50,000 in debt and he was devastated.
Arif was so angry at the time he wrote this song. The amazing
part of the story is that his friend stuck by his wife and through
therapy and patience they pulled through together. Could you stick
it out? |
12. All This Time
It's easier to be completely away from ex-girlfriends than to
run into them periodically. Feelings can rush back out of nowhere
and be quite surprising. Have you ever felt this way about a previous
lover? |
13. Olio Party
The band loves the attitude and energy of funk and this song is
a tribute to those artists back in the day - Sly Stone, Parliament/Funkadelic,
Kool & The Gang, EWF, Ohio Players, Graham Central Station and
of course James Brown. |
