Colour Of Music
1. Through To You
A discussion regarding my communication style within an argument sparked this song. At times it's easier for me to be direct than to recite a long winded delicate version. In your relationships do you give or receive this point of view? Do you project into the future, predict an outcome and make a strong stance on that position? I do and the problem is at times I'm right and others I'm not. Do you have this kind of challenge in your relationship? Do you know someone that does?
2. Going Back
Ideas of what my first true love could be were grand when I was fifteen. Certain realities of living life have not set in yet and that powerful optimism shines bright. How did you feel about love and the future in your youth? I wrote this song as a way to get back in touch with the feelings that youth bring. Romance, love, optimism, invincibility. Have you gone back lately and reconnected?
3. Gift Of A Smile
Do you tend to get caught up in the day to day grind of life like I do? Does your drive to succeed give you tunnel vision? Do you know someone like this? Every day I try to stop and enjoy the simple things in life, especially the power of a smile. From family, friends and even strangers. Try it and see if it brightens your day.
4. Kickin' It *mp3*
I love hanging out and laughing with my family and friends. Do you enjoy spending time and sharing with the ones you love? Do you work hard and play just as hard? This song is what we in Olio are all about.
5. Hey Champ *mp3*
An incident at Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles turned a frustrating encounter into a great song. I'm a white guy at a predominantly black restaurant waiting for an hour to get in while black patrons are getting in without waiting at all. The host kept asking me "Are you sure you want to wait champ? Hey champ, are you sure you want to wait?" Have you ever had an experience like this? Inspired, I decided to write a song about it. What ended up happening was a social comment about how music in our culture is perceived. Have you noticed, even years after the civil rites movement, today it's still stripped down to black and white music? However, musicians seem to be at the forefront of reshaping this notion. They have for years. Back in the hey day of Jazz, color lines were unimportant to the musicians. We take this same approach in our music and lives. This song is the theme of our CD - Colour of Music. Is your cd collection diverse but kept separate from each other? We offer a blend of r&b and rock in what we do on this CD and invite you to explore it while asking why are styles of music defined by race?
6. Take A Ride
This is a take on the typical dance club scene on any given night. Do you know or are you the player that is intent on hooking up with the finest girl in the joint? He just wants to dance the latest dance "the slide" and of course he has to impress her by throwing down his heaviest "mack", tellin' lies and sweet talkin' just wanting her to take a ride in his world. How's it working out?
7. Symptoms Of You
Are you currently in love? A romantic streak in me sparked this song describing how I feel when I'm in love. Playful lyrics that state if the symptoms of love are true, no medicine can fix or heal me. Only the one I love can do that. Do you feel this way for someone?
8. Kiss The Ring
I marvel at the way our culture conditions us to be competitive sports fans. Have you noticed the correlation between the Greek society of the past and our current climate? Give us the games and we'll be content. Well the fact is, I'm hooked on it and I love a great game. I'm particularly interested in the way a great team that makes it to the top, gets fat and happy, and then loses the title. It seems to be human nature in general, not just in sports. Do you embrace your struggles and accomplishments and not take either for granted?
9. Anytime
Finding the right mate that has it all is tough to find. When compatibility, sex appeal, common dreams and ideals are found it's wonderful. Have you felt or do you feel that way about anyone? This is a love song without saying I love you.
10. Still Can't Let You Go
A relationship that grew apart inspired this song. It's a struggle between the mind and heart. Do you know when it's time to move on but your heart will not let go? Do you feel or witness this pain? Even the emotional walls I put up to protect me from getting hurt didn't work. The irony is that the walls were built to protect me from myself. In the end I had to face my feelings directly and deal with them. Do you have walls up or have you torn them down?
