ornament swap


i just received my first ornament! i signed up for a swap - make 10 ornaments and send them out to the far corners of the globe and get 10 in return. fun, huh? i got my first one in the mail over t-giving and it is stunning. my camera is MIA but here is the artists flickr photo of the piece: 6 Geese It is a painting in the style of Monet (!) of 6 Geese a laying. She did a set of 12 altogether. Thanks S'mee! I love it. My ornaments are done and almost all packaged. I will post pictures as soon as the camera has come back to me.

Tuesday, November 28th

icy

we are back from a fast flying trip to SD. we went to celebrate my father-in-law's 70th birthday as well as Thanksgiving. it was jam-packed with 15 different family members (plus us) ages 1 to 70. here's a lovely shot of the ice that we met about 1/2 way back on the drive home. we broke slabs of ice about 3/8 in thick off of the car in the morning. thanks to my sister for putting us up.

Saturday, November 18th

hooray for heat!


new furnace is installed and purring softly.

hooray for warm and for being able to turn off a few light for the first time in 4 days. (we were leaving them on to help keep the house warm) it is amazing how much it starts to annoy you to have every light on for 24 hours. who knew? we are now sitting in the dark basking in the glow of our various computers.

eclectic enamels

the etsy site has just undergone a big overhaul and i have finally been able to start listing some of my enamel pendants! i have sold one already (wow!) and just listed a few more this morning.

in other news. the furnace guys will be here at 7am on Saturday with our new furnace. We have 3 space heaters keeping us from getting frosty and we are drinking lots of tea!

the Holiday Show opens today at the Textile Center. i am scheduled for a day of helping shoppers and working the register. if you're in the neighborhood, come say hi!

Tuesday, November 14th

only in MN


only in MN is the guy you have to come fix the furnace named "Thor".

bad news is that the part that went bad is the most expensive one in the whole furnace.
bad news is that he doesn't have a compatible part in the truck.
bad news is that we had to call at 7pm when we discovered that the furnace was blowing cold air around the house.
it is currently 62 degrees inside.
the heat exchanger is totally corroded.
the repairman just left and....
we get to buy a new furnace! and we probably will be without heat until tomorrow night or maybe thursday.

i decided to sign up and participate in this swap. i did one back at the end of the summer and had a great time. for this one, you exchange holiday ornaments with a group of 10 from all over the world. i have ladies from denmark and new zealand as well as CA, MA and NY in my group. it should be fun. making christmas ornaments is really one of my favorite things about the holidays, so this was right up my alley.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee We went to see this last night. No, not a real spelling bee, the Broadway musical that won 2 Tony awards. I guess I am a Broadway geek, because nobody was nearly as excited about this as I was. It's a funny show about an unusual group of kids at a spelling championship. We were most amazed by the cast, who did the entire show sans intermission.

a pretty lacy scarf in teal colored silk tweed yarn. pattern from knitty.com and is called "branching out". it is about 7 in wide. this is the second lace pattern i have done and i love this scarf!

felted bag


felted (74k image)(this isn't the greatest picture...) i finished this cute felted bag a while back but i haven't remembered to take a picture. this is knitted from wool yarn and then felted in the washing machine. it was lots of fun to make and i use it all the time.
