i wish i had something interesting and exciting and crafty to write about here today and i don't.... craftiness has been at a bit of a standstill around here because i just can't seem to get inspired. let me tell you the story about my DC scarf. i took knitting with me on my trip to DC with my sister because our plan was to sit and knit and watch movies in the evening. (ok, i was going to knit because she is convinced that learning to knit is beyond her.) i started a scarf. as i may have mentioned before, i am a rectangle knitter. if it is a rectangle, i am all over it. if it involves complicated counting, following a pattern or anything like that, i lose interest after about 2 days. so i started a scarf. sadly the yarns i picked didn't look nearly as cool as they did in my head when i was envisioning this project. no worries - i ripped out what i had started and decided to go with one yarn and a fancy stitch instead. find a stitch, simple lace, very easy.... after about 20 rows i realize that i am using a stitch that was written down for knitting in the round and i should be purling instead of knitting every other row. sigh. more ripping out. at this point i figure i am better off going back to simple. i have a circular needle with me, why not make a hat. ribbing is my speed. perfect pretty cream colored yarn goes with everything. knit knit knit away. after about 12 rows, it starts to look funny.... i have put a twist in my hat! at this point i packed it up and put it back in my suitcase for the duration of the trip.

since i am going on two trips in the next few weeks, i really needed a totebag for all of my airplane essentials: book, snacks, knitting, purse etc. despite the fact that i have made all kinds of bags, i didn't have anything the right size. so i pulled out this fabric, which andy bought me for my birthday when we were in florida, and made a bag! the bottom and lining are denim and i put two zippered pockets on the inside. the pockets are lined with ocean waves fabric and the button flap is little tiny fishies. now i am ready for anything. i have picked out some red & white strawberry fabric to make a little zippered bag for my jewelry and hair stuff, too. off to do more sewing!

i finally got the shop updated at beckarahn.etsy.com - 7 new items today including the ipod shuffle cozy you see pictured above.
there have been a lack of blog updates in the last little while because i ran out of disk space, but andy got me all fixed up. coming soon.... final pictures from the doublet journals, more etsy items in the works including a wizards hat with a purple owl perched on the brim and a bead embroidered card case and who knows what else!

here we are from saturday before it started to pour. lots of sewing for me, though parts of these costumes were completed this year and parts from last year...

we also discovered a new addiction - Pirates of the Spanish Main. my sister and i are board game junkies from childhood and have a special weakness for games with really cool pieces or artwork. this one is as cool as it gets. we each now have a fleet. i have to admit that the youngest sister was the one to discover these first. she introduced andy to them and the rest is history.
